HOLY HERMITAGE OF OUR LADY GORGOEPĒKOOS OF PSACHNA

The Holy Monastery was founded following a dream of Elder Taxiarchia Skoutela, Abbess of the Monastery, after the miraculous intervention of the Virgin Mary that led to her recovery.

In 1960, Elder Taxiarchia saw in a dream the place where the Holy Monastery now stands, and the dream continued for approximately two years. Thus, after the acquisition of the estate and the laying of the foundation stone of the main church on May 25, 1965, an ancient portable icon of the Virgin Mary holding the Infant Christ was discovered, which has since become the precious treasure of the Holy Monastery. Thereafter, with the assistance of the faithful, the Monastery was completed with the construction of the Katholikon, consecrated in 1977 by the former Metropolitan of Chalcis, Chrysostomos (Vergis), as well as the Holy Chapels dedicated to the Holy Great Martyrs Polycarp, George and Phanourios. Recently, the Katholikon, the chapels, and the place where the icon was found were completely restored. A new small chapel was built there, while the Holy Icon of the Mother of God was conserved and placed in a specially crafted handmade silver frame on the iconostasis of the Monastery.
